I just hope it's not the start of a trend. Imagine a world where people
are forced to choose between HP and Dell for their computers.

God forbid.

Anyway a shout out to Tom Geery and everyone else who made
owning Abit products a real pleasure throughout the years.

Long live Asus and Gigabyte.

A few years ago they made some questionable decisions that almost
killed them then . They had to work a deal with Universal to stay
alive until now, but with the global recession they've been squeezed
out by the big guys.

The wife's PC is still working with an AV8 3RD EYE in it. Got a
couple of NF7 2.0 around here somewhere.

Damn I had no idea.

Thankfully I don't need bleeding edge speed (only gamers do really these
days) but I have a few KT7s and raid versions in stock. One's even
running a 2400+XP CPU with no problem, and is it fast !

It should also run the 2600+XP-M I have since it's the same clock speed
and multiplier AFAIK but with 1/2 a meg of 1st level cache.

Even this 1400MHz original Athlon on a KT7 is faster than my neighbour's
2.4GHz Dell <spit>.

Me too.

They were the only manufacturer, AFAIK, that stood behind and made
good on the motherboards that failed because of the crap cap fiasco a
few years ago. The cost of that was probably a major nail in their
coffin.

before they disappear.

I suppose all good things must end. I really enjoyed the ABIT / ASUS
competition in the good 'ol days. When I retire my IC7-Max3 I may frame it
in teak and hang it on a wall well illuminated with leds. I'm going to miss
this NG. Will the last poster please turn out the lights? So long -
